Mumbai, 14 June 2026: The Mumbai International Film Festival MIFF 2026, in its 19th edition, in collaboration with LTM, has introduced the first ever AI Cinema Hackathon at MIFF and a bold step toward reimagining cinema in the age of artificial intelligence. The much awaited biennial film festival for non feature films, scheduled to be held from June 15 to 21, 2026 at the NFDC head office in Cumballa Hill, Mumbai, and other designated venues, promises a vibrant confluence of creativity, culture, innovation and global cinematic excellence.

Designed as a competitive, theme-based, time-bound challenge, the virtual hac˞athon will have participants to create original short films using end to end AI-driven wor˞k-flows. From concept to screen, creators will experiment with emerging tools, formats, and techniques, unlock˞ing new possibilities in cinematic expression. More than a competition, the AI Cinema Hac˞athon is a platform for discovery and future-facing storytelling, extending MIFF’s legacy into the evolving language of cinema.
AI As Powerful New Tool Enables Filmmakers To Visualize Untold Stories
The AI Films showcases a new frontier of cinematic expression where storytelling, technology, and imagination converge. Spanning history, mythology, personal memory, music, and meta-cinematic explorations, these films demonstrate how artificial intelligence is expanding creative possibilities while raising compelling questions about authorship, authenticity, and the future of filmmaking. Far from replacing human creativity, the works in this section reveal AI as a powerful new tool-one that enables filmmakers to visualize untold stories, reimagine the past, and explore ideas beyond the limits of conventional production.
This virtual challenge will witness Indian filmmakers, creators, and tech innovators to script, generate, and edit an original 2-minute short film using end-to-end AI workflows within 48 hours. Open to individuals and teams of up to five, participants will compete for a cash prize pool of up to Rs1.5 Lakhs and the exclusive opportunity to have their work screened at the prestigious festival.
