Mumbai, April 1, 2025: An MoU was signed between the Maharashtra Government and Microsoft in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to establish intelligence centers of excellence in the state. 

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Maharashtra government by Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik and Microsoft's Venkat Krishnan. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge, Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Naveen Sona, Principal Secretary of the Law and Justice Department Suvarna Kewale as well as Microsoft's Vikram Kale, Vishal Ghosh and others were present.

This MoU strengthens the Maharashtra government's concept of "Digital India, Self-reliant Maharashtra". With the help of artificial intelligence, the government will become more capable, people-oriented and transparent, which will directly benefit the citizens, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on this occasion.

Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik said that the MoU signed with Microsoft will provide an opportunity for officers and employees of the state to get training in the field of artificial intelligence. This partnership will accelerate Maharashtra's dream of a $1 trillion economy by 2028. It will also enable important infrastructure and projects. At the same time, it will boost the state's innovation, progress and entrepreneurship. Due to this, this partnership will make a significant contribution to the economic and social development of Maharashtra. 

Three AI Centers of Excellence across the state

Mumbai- Geography Analysis Centre: For advanced geography-related analysis, GIS and satellite imagery to support policy decision-making. This centre will be functioning in the Chief Secretary's office. It will greatly help the government's policy decision-making process through satellite imagery analysis, geostatistical management and GIS-based applications.

Pune – Forensic Research and 'A.I. Center:' Expanding the use of A.I. for criminal investigation and forensic analysis.

Nagpur – Marvell Center: AI-based research and training for law enforcement, vigilance and improved administration, as well as AI training and Microsoft certifications will be provided to government employees in the state. MS Learn, a world-class platform, will make the administration more capable and tech-savvy.

With the help of Microsoft Copilot technology, various government functions will be significantly improved. This technology will be useful for streamlining administrative workflows. Automatic summarization and analysis facilities will be available to make document management more effective. Also, quick resolution will be possible with the help of artificial intelligence to respond immediately to citizen complaints. Copilot technology will play an important role in the areas of health management, land records management and traffic management. It will be directly linked to Aadhaar card and other essential services to simplify the process of traffic fines. This will make government services more efficient, transparent and beneficial to citizens.
