Mumbai, 25 October, 2024: This week more than 10,000 people gathered in Beijing and online to be part of Sibos 2024. Participants from more than 150 countries heard from 500+ speakers and met over 130 exhibitors. Sibos is the global financial services event of the year.
Yesterday’s proceedings were wrapped up with an inspiring closing plenary from Tony Fernandes, one of Asia’s most recognisable entrepreneurs, on how he realised his dream to connect people and change lives through affordable air travel.
At Innotribe, Wan Wei Soh from AI Visionary Society explained the mindset needed to be adopted in the age of algorithms to take advantage of and mitigate the risks of our digital twins, and Charlie Ang, digital futurist and innovation specialist took us on a journey into the future of banking.
Other highlights included a Big Issue Debate on the AI revolution and its potential to aid efficiency, expand innovation and personalise experiences, and Industry sessions on tokenisation, interconnecting payment systems and multi-currency settlement.
All the members of the Sibos community look forward to meeting again at Sibos 2025 Frankfurt from 29 September – 2 October 2025.
Views from the STARs
More than 30 women from around the world took part in this year’s STAR programme, designed to champion the leaders of tomorrow by providing special access to the Sibos conference programme, facilitated networking and mentoring activities.
The Sibos Talent Accelerator Route (STAR) scholarship returned at Sibos 2024, bringing together women in finance and championing the leaders of tomorrow.
The scholarship not only recognises women who have made outstanding contributions to their organisations, it also provides a platform to foster meaningful professional connections and learning opportunities.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning have the potential to fundamentally change industries – and banking is no exception. Miki Iizuka, Deutsche Bank, looked at the how these emerging technologies are driving internal efficiencies for banks across automation, compliance and customer service.

In yesterday’s final, BNY were the winners of Challenge 1, harnessing AI and automation to reduce the manual steps involved in securities transactions.
Secretarium’s solution took the title in Challenge 2, augmenting Swift’s Transaction Manager with privacy-preserving technology for digital asset transactions.
Congratulations also to runners up, Capgemini and a second team from BNY for Challenge 2. And a big shout-out to Barclays and Sedicii, who were highly commended.
