DRI Foils Gold Smuggling Attempt

Mumbai, 24, October 2024: Acting on specific intelligence, officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted two passengers arriving on flight IX 1762 from Jaipur to Mumbai. Upon inspection of their baggage, officials recovered three packages containing a total of 9,487 grams of foreign-origin gold, with an estimated market value of Rs. 7.69 crores.
Both individuals admitted during questioning that they had concealed the smuggled gold during their journey and were found to be travelling under false identities. As a result of this operation, the gold has been seized, and both passengers have been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
