CBI arrests CGST Superintendent And Inspector, Solan in bribe cases related to demand & accepting bribe from complainant

Mumbai, July 14, 2024: CBI has arrested a Superintendent and an Inspector, both of Central Goods & Services Tax (CGST), Solan Office (Himachal Pradesh) in a case related to demand and accepting of bribe of Rs8000 from the complainant. In another case, CBI has arrested accused Superintendent of Central GST & Central Excise, Berhampur, District Ganjam, Odisha while accepting bribe of Rs. 15,000/- from the complainant in lieu of processing his GST refund, as per the press releases issued by the CBI.
A case was registered by CBI U/s 61(2) of Bhartiya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 r/w section 7 of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (As amended in July, 2018) against Inspector and Tax Assistant (later on identified as Supdt.), both of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Solan office, H.P, on the basis of a complaint. It was alleged that accused demanded a bribe of Rs.12,000/- from the complainant through the friend of complainant for processing and approval of CGST Registration number of his firm. Accused asked complainant to visit their office for the said purpose, failing which, his CGST Registration would be rejected. During the complainant’s visit to the said CGST office, accused reduced bribe amount and agreed to accept Rs.8,000/- for the official act and asked the complainant to come to their office in Solan along with the said undue advantage/bribe.
CBI laid a trap and accused Inspector was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs8000/- from the complainant in criminal conspiracy with other accused whose correct identity was revealed as Superintendent after trap.
Searches were conducted at the official & residential premises of accused at Solan (HP), Mohali (Punjab) and Una Distt. (HP). Some incriminating documents/ articles have been recovered during searches.
Both the accused persons were arrested and were produced before the Competent Court at Shimla (HP). Investigation is continuing.
In another case, CBI has arrested accused Superintendent of Central GST & Central Excise, Berhampur, District Ganjam, Odisha while accepting bribe of Rs. 15,000/- from the complainant in lieu of processing his GST refund.
A case was registered by CBI on 09.07.2024 on the basis of the complaint against the said Superintendent of Central GST & Central Excise, Berhampur. It was alleged that accused demanded bribe of Rs. 20,000/- from the complainant on the ground that the accused had earlier processed refund of GST amounting to Rs. 1.77 lakh to the complainant and on the ground of smoothly processing another GST refund of nearly Rs. 3 lakh to the complainant.
CBI laid a trap and accused Superintendent of Central GST & Central Excise, Berhampur, District Ganjam, Odisha was arrested by CBI from the Office of Asstt. Commissioner, Central GST & Central Excise, Berhampur, District Ganjam, Odisha when he was caught red-handed while accepting the first instalment of bribe amount of Rs. 15,000/-, out of the total demanded bribe amount of Rs. 20,000/-, from the complainant.
Searches were conducted at the residential and official premises of the accused at Berhampur and Bhubaneswar which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
Accused was going to be produced before the Court of Ld. Special Judge for CBI Cases at Bhubaneswar.
Investigation is continuing.
