Arrest was made for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.3 lakh from the complainant

Mumbai, May 29, 2025: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two accused including Deputy Registrar of Hon’ble NCLT, Mumbai Bench, Mumbai and a private person for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.3 lakh(one lakh real and rest dummy) from the complainant, as per a press release issued by the CBI today.
Name of the arrested accused:-
1) Shri Charan Pratap Singh, Deputy Registrar of Hon’ble NCLT, Mumbai Bench, Mumbai.
2) Shri Karsan Ganesh Ahir, a private person.
A case was registered by CBI on 14.05.2025 against the said accused on a complaint. It was alleged that the complainant is the owner of a hotel and there is some dispute between him and his brothers, regarding the ownership of the said hotel. That matter was filed before the NCLT Mumbai Court number IV on 2.11.2020 and has since been pending. It was further alleged that, on 11.05.2025, accused Deputy Registrar demanded an undue advantage of Rs.3.50 lakh from complainant for helping him in the matter by using his contacts in Hon’ble NCLT, Mumbai and getting the matter settled in his favour. Later, accused agreed to accept Rs three lakh as bribe.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused private person red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.3 lakh (Rs.1.00 lakh real currency and rest dummy currency) on behalf of the accused Deputy Registrar. During further trap proceedings, the accused Deputy Registrar was also arrested by CBI for his role in the bribery.
Searches are being conducted by CBI at the premises of accused in Mumbai and Lucknow. The arrested accused persons are being produced before the Competent Court, Mumbai today i.e. on 29.05.2025.
Investigation is continuing.
