Mumbai, May 4, 2024: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has on Friday arrested an Income Tax Officer, Mumbai while accepting bribe of Rs4.00 lakh from the complainant, as per a press release issued by the CBI.
A case was registered by CBI against the accused Income Tax Officer, Ward-(2) (1) (1), Air India Building, Nariman Point, Mumbai on allegations that accused demanded an undue advantage of Rs5.04 lakh from complainant for issuing lower TDS certificate in respect of sale of a property of complainant’s maternal uncle, who is an NRI. The accused initially demanded undue advantage of 2% of the total deal value of the property worth Rs. 5.04 crore and after negotiation, reduced it to 1% of the deal value of the property.
Later, accused agreed to accept bribe of Rs. 4.00 lakh from the complainant.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while accepting the undue advantage of Rs. 4.00 lakh in his office at Mumbai from complainant. Subsequently, the accused was arrested by the CBI on 02.05.2024.
Searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of accused in Mumbai which led to recovery of Rs15.00 lakh cash, gold ornaments, papers related to investments in immovable and movable properties and the same are under scrutiny.
Investigation is continuing.
