Mumbai, May 26, 2025: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an accused Senior Doctor working as an Assessor with National Medical Commission (NMC) immediately after receiving a bribe of Rs. 10 Lakh from private persons for issuing favourable Inspection Report regarding their medical college based in Belgavi, Karnataka. An additional cash amount Rs 44.6 lakh (approx) was also recovered during searches, as per a press release issued by the CBI today.
A case was registered by CBI on 24.05.2025 against three accused including said accused and two private persons and private medical institute based in Belgavi, Karnataka on allegations that accused Senior Doctor working as an Assessor with National Medical Commission (NMC) demanded a bribe of Rs. 10 Lakh from the representatives of a private Medical College in lieu of issuing favourable Inspection Report regarding their institute.
CBI laid a trap and caught accused red-handed immediately after he accepted a bribe of Rs.10 lakh from representatives of said private medical college. Later, accused Senior Doctor was arrested.
Searches were conducted by CBI at residential and official premises of the accused public servant and other private persons at several locations in Kolkata, Bardhaman and Belgaum which led to the recovery of additional cash of Rs.44.60 Lakh and including incriminating documents and articles.
Total amount of cash recovered during the operation is Rs. 54.60 Lakh.
Arrested accused will be produced before the competent Court.
Investigation is continuing.
