CBI Court sentences four accused including then Investigator of O/o Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Agartala; PG Teacher of Tripura Govt. and two private persons to 4-5 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment with total fine of Rs 2.05 lakh a case related to misappropriation of Govt funds

Mumbai, March 10, 2025: The Ld. Spl. Court, for CBI cases, Agartala has sentenced 04 accused including Shri Achyut Kumar Das alias A. K. Das, then Investigator of O/o the Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Marketing & Service Extension Centre (M&SEC), Agartala: Shri Kamal Krishna Debnath (Tripura State Govt. Employee-PG Teacher) and two private persons namely Smt. Kalapana Debnath, then President of Women Development Society, Ranir Gaon, West Tripura and Shri Sanjay Debnath @ Bhola, then Secretary of Women Development Society, Ranir Gaon, West Tripura to 4-5 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with total fine Rs. 2.05 lakh in a case related to misappropriated funds of Govt. of India, as per the press release issued by the CBI.
Accused accused, Shri Achyut Kumar Das alias A. K. Das, was sentenced to 5 years’ RI with fine of Rs. 75,000/-, Shri Kamal Krishna Debnath (PG Teacher of Tripura State Govt.) was sentenced to 4 years’ RI with fine of Rs. 20,000/- and two private persons namely Smt Kalpana Debnath and Shri Sanjay Debnath @ Bhola, were sentenced to 4 Years’ RI with fine of Rs. 55,000/- each.
CBI had registered then instant case on 31.07.2012 against Shri Achyut Kumar Das alias A. K. Das, then Investigator, O/o the Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Smt. Kalapana Debnath, President of Women Development Society, Ranir Gaon, West Tripura (Pvt. Person) and Shri Sanjay Debnath, Secretary of Women Development Society, Ranir Gaon, West Tripura (Pvt. Person), on the allegations that the aforesaid accused persons, under conspiracy among themselves during the period from 2010 to 2011, had fraudulently and dishonestly shown to have conducted skill upgradation training programmes in cane and bamboo crafts whereas the same was only on papers, under Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana Scheme for 20 nos. of artisans/training for four months and issued false inspection report in this regard. Thus, accused allegedly misappropriated funds of Govt. of India to the tune of Rs. 4,50,000/-for the instructors wages, compensations for trainees etc.
After completion of investigation, a charge sheet was filed on 30.06.2014 by CBI against accused including the accused who have been convicted/ sentenced . Charges in the case were framed on 31.08.2017 by the Ld. Court. During trial 48 witnesses were examined by the prosecution.
After trial, the Court found accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
