Mumbai, January 11, 2025: CBI Court convicts 04 accused and sentences 3 of them present in the Court including then Managing Director and then Manager of Amer Speak’, American Accent Academy, Kalathipady, (Kottayam) to 05 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment with total fine of Rs30.06 lakh in a cheating case.
The Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ernakulam, Kerala has convicted 04 accused private persons namely Sebastian P. John, then Managing Director and Biju @ Mathew, then Manager, both of Amer Speak’, American Accent Academy; Kalathipady, Kottayam,(Kerala); Smt Steffi Mary George W/o Sebastian P. John and Smt. Johncy Joseph while the court sentenced three of them (except accused Smt. Steffi Mary George) to 05 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment with total fine of Rs. 30.06 lakh in a cheating case. Since accused Smt. Steffi Mary George did not turn up for hearing on the question of sentence, the case against her was split up.
On recovery of the fine amount from accused Shri Sebastian P. John; Biju @Mathew, and Smt. Johncy Joseph, Rs.1,40,000/- each is to be paid as compensation to 21 victims, cheated by the accused.
CBI had re-registered the instant case on 09/08/2011 in compliance of the order dated 7/09/2010 of Hon’ble High Court of Kerala against accused including those convicted by the Court. It was alleged that accused persons entered a criminal conspiracy to cheat intending emigrants on the false pretext of job abroad, in Italy, Spain and U.K. and in furtherance of the said criminal conspiracy, accused dishonestly induced emigrants to pay a total amount of Rs.28,27,000/- and obtained wrongful gain to themselves and corresponding wrongful loss to victims.
After completion of investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on 25/2/2012 against accused before the Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ernakulam.
