Mumbai, June 12, 2025: Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs, today addressed the media on Air India Flight AI171 crash: “This afternoon, Air India flight AI-171 crashed, and several passengers lost their lives. The entire nation is grieving and is standing together with the bereaved families. The central government received information within 10 minutes of the accident. I contacted the Gujarat Chief Minister, Home Minister, and the Civil Aviation Minister. The Prime Minister also called within no time. All the central and state government departments are carrying out the rescue operation There were 230 passengers and 12 crew members. There is one survivor, whom I met personally. The death toll will be announced after DNA verification. Every department is carrying out the rescue operations in coordination.”
Visit to hospital
“I Visited the hospital and met with the people injured in the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. Spoke with the affected family members and assured them of every possible support required for the swift recovery of the injured. Also discussed with the doctors about their present health conditions.”
Investigation Initiated By AAIB
Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Minister of Civil Aviation of India, today said: “Following the tragic incident in Ahmedabad, a formal investigation has been initiated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), in line with international protocols set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Additionally, the Government is constituting a high-level committee comprising experts from multiple disciplines to examine the matter in detail. The committee will work to strengthen aviation safety and prevent such incidents in future.
We are closely monitoring relief and rescue operations on the ground. I am personally present at the crash site to ensure all necessary support is being extended. A thorough investigation will be conducted. No stone will be left unturned in uncovering the cause and ensuring accountability.
Just visited the crash site in Ahmedabad what I witnessed was deeply distressing. I’m on the ground, closely reviewing rescue and relief efforts. Teams from DGCA, AAI, Air India, NDRF, and local administration are working round-the-clock. We're doing everything we can to support the victims and their families in this tragic hour.”

PM Assures Swift And Effective Assistance
The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed profound grief and shock over the tragic incident in Ahmedabad today. He stated that the tragedy has stunned and saddened the nation and described it as heartbreaking beyond words.
Shri Modi said that he has been in continuous communication with Ministers and relevant authorities to ensure swift and effective assistance to those impacted.
