For the year 2025, the President has approved conferment of 139 Padma Awards including 1 duo case. The list comprises 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri Awards. 23 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and13 Posthumous awardees. In a duo case, the Award is counted as one.

Mumbai, January 25, 2025: Padma Awards 2025 have been announced today by the government.

Padma Awardees 2025 include, among others, well known personalities from the field of Trade & Industry Arundhati Bhattacharya, Pankaj Patel and Pawan Goenka. Shekhar Kapur, Jaspinder Narula, Ashok Laxman Saraf, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande are winners from Art, Cinema.

Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

These Awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at RashtrapatiBhawan usually around March/ April every year. Arundhati Bhattacharya

Arundhati Bhattacharya is Chairperson & CEO, Salesforce India Since April 2020. She has been Chairman of SWIFT India since April 2019. Salesforce is a global leader in Customer Relationship Management software.

Arundhati Bhattacharya has 40+ years of rich experience in India's financial sector working across varied roles and diverse national & international locations.
She has been on Board Of Directors of Reliance Industries, Wipro Limited and Piramal Group.

She was the first woman to chair the State Bank of India (SBI) from 2013 to 2017 in its 210 years.
During her 4 years tenure as the first-ever woman Chair of State Bank of India, a Fortune 500 company, she stamped her imprint on the financial world not just in India but globally as well.

She is credited with upscaling the Bank's technology initiatives in order to give this 212 year old largest bank of India (22% market share) a digital edge that has been acknowledged by Industry as path breaking. Her work in the area of Human Resources with special focus on the status of women and "challenged" members of the work force, has also been of special significance. Under her leadership of the bank was adjudged one of India's top 3 Best Places to work in India by leading Global Job site ‘Indeed' based on their 15 million reviews globally for most highly rated reviews on overall employee experience.

She also engineered the merger of the mother Bank with its six Associate banks creating an entity three times the size of its nearest competitor. The entire exercise was executed smoothly over a period of six weeks and was credited with being an operation that was completed with minimal or no disruption of customer service across its network of 22000 branches and 56000 ATMs as well as over 5000 franchisee outlets.

Forbes magazine had ranked her 25th in their list of "Most Powerful Women in the World" and 5th in "The Most Powerful Women in Finance" category in 2016. She has also been featured in the Fortune List of Top 50 globally most powerful women in business and ranked among the top 5 in the Asia-Pacific region. She was included in the top 100 Global Thinkers in 2014 by Foreign Policy Magazine and was one of the two Indians on the list. She has been ranked 26th in the fourth edition of Fortune's World 50 Greatest Leaders list, becoming the only Indian corporate leader to be featured in the list.

She has been outspoken in her views of not being driven by quarterly numbers to the detriment of long term strategy and goals.

She was MD & CEO of SBI's investment banking arm, SBI Capital Markets. Earlier, as Dy. Managing Director in SBI, she headed the largest Human Resources Department of the Banking Industry consisting of a work force of over 200,000+ employees, which includes 65,000 officers.

 Ms. Bhattacharya is a postgraduate degree holder in English. She is also an Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.

At Reliance Industries Limited, she is an Independent Director and a Member of the Stakeholders’ Relationship Committee and Environmental, Social and Governance Committee. 

During her tenure as the Chairperson of SBI, she introduced sabbatical leave for women bank employees. She has been nominated by the Government to be a part of select committees, including the Lokpal Search Committee, Padma Awardees Selection Committee, SEBI's Mutual Fund Advisory Committee, and National Coal Index Committee.

Her interests include reading and travelling. She is also associated with initiatives and institutions for empowering persons with disabilities in order to integrate them better in society. 

 

Pankaj Patel  

Mr. Pankaj Patel is the Chairman of Zydus Lifesciences Ltd., a discovery-driven, global Lifesciences company with operations in 55 countries worldwide. A stalwart and a visionary, Mr. Pankaj Patel combines both research and techno-commercial expertise. He has published over 100 research papers in peer reviewed journals and is a co-inventor in more than 64 patents. He has been conferred with Dsc. (Honoris Causa) by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. Mr. Patel has been appointed as the Part Time Non-official Director in Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India. He is on the board of several institutions, including Chairman of IIM Udaipur and Chairperson of the Board of Governors of IIM Ahmedabad and Invest India. He is also a Member of the Governing Board of India Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. He is also a Member of the CEO Advisory Committee of International Generics and Biosimilars Association (IGBA). Mr. Patel is a Past President of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). He also officiates on the board of several Not-for-Profit & charitable institutions. 

In recognition of his contributions to the healthcare industry in India, Mr. Pankaj Patel is a recipient of several awards including the Acharya PC Ray Memorial Gold Medal Award and the Eminent Pharmacist Award, the India Innovator Award at the India Business Leaders Awards instituted by CNBC. For his entrepreneurial vision, Mr. Patel was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Life Sciences category.

Prior to being appointed as Chairperson, Mr. Pankaj R. Patel has been a member of the IIMA Board of Governors for eight years. Mr. Pankaj Patel combines both research and techno-commercial expertise and has published over 100 research papers in peer reviewed journals and is a co-inventor in more than 64 patents.

Mr. Patel has been appointed as the Part Time Non-official Director in Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India. He is on the Governing Board of IIM Udaipur (as Chairman), Invest India, and India Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. He is also a Member of the CEO Advisory Committee of International Generics and Biosimilars Association (IGBA). Mr. Patel is a Past President of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). 

 

Pawan K Goenka:

Pawan K Goenka is Chairman of INSPACe, Dept of Space, Chairman SCALE, DPIIT, committed to aatmanirbhar Bharat, ex Mahindra, love Bollywood movies, playing bridge.

Dr. Goenka serves as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Madras. He is also the Chairperson of the Steering Committee for Advancing Local value-add and Employment (SCALE), an initiative under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. To facilitate private sector participation, the government has created the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), as a single-window, independent, nodal agency which functions as an autonomous agency in Department of Space (DOS). 

Dr. Pawan Goenka earned his B. Tech. from IIT, Kanpur and Ph.D. from Cornell University, U.S.A. He is a Graduate of Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School.

His professional experience includes working at General Motors R&D Centre, Detroit, U.S.A., for 14 years and at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. for 28 years. At Mahindra he led the development of the Scorpio SUV and built a strong R&D infrastructure and a robust product portfolio. He retired from M&M as MD & CEO on April 1, 2021.
