Mumbai, February 28, 2025: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the
appointment of Shri Tuhin Kanta Pandey, IAS (OR:1987), Finance Secretary and Secretary,
Department of Revenue to the post of Chaiman, Securities and Exchange Board of
India (SEBI), initially for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge
of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Shri Tuhin Kanta Pandey is an IAS Officer of Odisha Cadre -1987
Batch. He holds a Masters in Economics from Panjab University,
Chandigarh and Master of Business Administration from the University of
Birmingham (UK).
He was till now the Union Finance Secretary since 9th September, 2024
and also holds the position of Revenue Secretary since 9th January, 2025.
Prior to that, he was also Secretary, Department of Investment & Public
Asset Management (DIPAM) since 24th October, 2019 & Department of
Public Enterprises (DPE) since 1st August, 2024.
Shri Pandey has held many significant positions in Union & State
Government of Odisha, in addition to serving a stint in the Regional Office of
the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).
In the Union Government, his previous positions included Planning
Commission (Now Niti Aayog), Cabinet Secretariat and Ministry of
Commerce.
In State Government of Odisha, he served as administrative head in
the Departments of Finance, Health, General Administration, Commercial
Taxes & transport.
At the District level, he has served as Collector and District Magistrate
of Sambalpur District.
Shri Pandey has acquired wide experience in the areas of Economy &
Finance, Industrial Development, Tax administration and has been
instrumental in bringing about several institutional innovations, new
policies and systems in the Departments he has served.
