Workshop on India-African Union collaboration being held on varied themes


First workshop in the G20 Feeder Thematic Workshops

Mumbai, 1 November, 2023:  NITI Aayog is organising Feeder Thematic Workshops on varied themes which were discussed in the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration (NDLD). Ten Feeder Thematic Workshops are being organised from November 1, 2023 to November 9, 2023. The themes of the workshops include G 20 to G 21, data for development, tourism, digital public infrastructure, sustainable development, goals, trade, Indian development model, women led development, reforming multilateral development banks & climate finance and green development.

The first workshop in this series on the over-arching theme of India-African Union (AU) cooperation for a better inclusive world will be held tomorrow at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi. It will serve as a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas, focusing on three critical thematic areas. These themes highlight the growing relationship between India and the African Union and their combined efforts to create a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient global community. The workshop will include the following three sessions:

  • 1. Indo-AU Collaboration for an Inclusive World: The partnership between India and the African Union aims to foster inclusivity in various aspects of global governance, such as trade, security, and development. This theme explores how both entities can work together to promote a more equitable and inclusive world.
  • 2. India-AU Collaboration on Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure: Infrastructure development is a cornerstone for economic growth and poverty reduction. This theme delves into the cooperative efforts between India and the African Union to develop sustainable and resilient infrastructure projects across the African continent.
  • 3.  Managing Migration – Role of Indo-AU Partnership:  Migration is a complex issue affecting both India and Africa. This theme explores the shared challenges of managing migration and the role of the Indo-AU partnership in addressing these challenges.

Speakers include diplomats, academia and representatives of think tanks like RIS, CDRI etc. The workshop aims to generate concrete ideas, policy recommendations, and potential areas for future cooperation between India and the African Union in these critical thematic areas.  It is an opportunity for government officials, academics, experts, and civil society representatives to collaborate and create a roadmap for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
