Mumbai, June 11, 2025: State Bank of India, the nation’s largest and most trusted bank, in collaboration with Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRC), has enabled contactless ticketing solution, ‘RuPay On-The-Go’ for Mumbai Metro Line 3. Officially launched by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, this innovative system provides seamless and interoperable digital payments for metro travel across all ‘RuPay On-The-Go’ enabled metro lines across the country.

With its stored value feature, the solution allows swift offline transactions as well, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted commuting experience, even without internet access. With the launch of this solution, SBI has become the exclusive issuer of ‘RuPay On-The-Go’ cards for this metro line.

This latest deployment reinforces SBI’s continued leadership in transforming public transport payments through innovative and customer-centric solutions. With a strong focus on innovation and customer centricity, since 2019, SBI has been leading the adoption of digital ticketing solutions in public transport through National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) programs.

In the present scenario, handling of low value – high volume ticketing transactions is a big challenge for any public transport operator. As part of this commitment, SBI is in the advanced stages of deploying similar solutions for Chennai Metro - Phase II and Pune Metro Line 3, which will be available to the public soon. The Bank has already implemented ‘RuPay On-The-Go’ based ticketing solutions across various transit systems, including Noida Metro, Nagpur Metro, Mumbai Metro Lines 2A & 7, Chennai Metro, Agra Metro, Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) - Chennai, and Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).
