Mumbai, March 7, 2025: Women are taking control of their financial futures like never before, and the numbers say it all. Digital lending platform mPokket has witnessed an impressive 45% year-on-year increase in women borrowers since 2022, reflecting a growing trend of women using credit as a tool to fuel their ambitions—whether it’s better healthcare, higher education, or entrepreneurial ventures.

As per a recent report by NITI Aayog, TransUnion CIBIL, and MicroSave Consulting, women seeking credit in India grew threefold between 2019 and 2024, with loans worth INR 4.8 lac crore taken by women just in 2024. Echoing this national trend, mPokket’s internal data shows a prominent growth in women borrowers, redefining financial independence and opportunity.

“Our women borrower base has been growing consistently, with a remarkable 45% increase in unique women users from 2023 to 2024—mirroring the same strong growth we saw the year before. This sustained momentum proves that women are increasingly viewing credit as a powerful tool to unlock opportunities and drive long-term financial independence,” said Gaurav Jalan, CEO & Founder at mPokket.

Some of the remarkable observations we had from our study:

  • Healthcare remains the top priority: 33.5% of women borrow to cover medical emergencies, ensuring access to medicine and treatment without compromising on care.

  • Education fuels aspirations: 20.6% of women seek credit to invest in skill development.

  • Entrepreneurship is on the rise: 17.4% of women borrow for business purposes, with East India showing the strongest entrepreneurial drive—25% of women borrowers in the region are funding business needs.

Women today are not just borrowing—they’re building, learning, and growing. With access to reliable and flexible credit, they are using financial tools to take charge of their futures and unlock new opportunities.

At mPokket, supporting this journey is central to our mission. As more women step into financial independence, we remain committed to offering innovative solutions that empower them at every stage of life.
